It was in the 1999-2000 season that he caught the attention of sports agents, as he was the top scorer and most valuable player for the midget AAA Tisdale Trojans, and was second for the MVP title of the entire league. He continued on to a higher level, playing for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League during the next season, where he also went to school. In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft he was chosen by the Ottawa Senators as the 193rd pick overall, but decided not to sign and continued playing for the Warriors, but was traded to the Seattle Thunderbirds, where he stayed until the end of the 2002-03 season.
Professional Career
Brooks struggled at the beginning of his professional career, as he couldn’t establish with the Ottawa Senators, and so was traded to the Washington Capitals. He initially played for the Capitals’ affiliate Portland Pirates, and after several great games was brought into the Capitals’ first team, and from the 2006-07 season until 2015-16, he was one of the main players for the Capitals. His best season was 2009-2010, when he scored 25 goals and had 34 assists for a total of 59 points. Following the 2016 Draft, Brooks was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs, for which he played in 21 games, scoring only one goal and adding six assists. He spent the 2016-17 season with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, then in 2017-18 he played for the Los Angeles Kings, but agreed to a mutual termination of his contract on the 27th November 2017. He is yet to find his new team.
