At a young age, Dasom had set her sights on pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, as she loved singing and writing songs. Her writing ability was notable, as she started winning songwriting and poem contests as a teenager. Eventually, she was invited to audition for Starship Entertainment and was successful, leading her to become a trainee with the company. Starship is known for being the home of numerous K-pop artists, including Monsta X, Cosmic Girls, Mind U, and #Gun.

She made her first public appearances in 2010, appearing in various commercials and magazine advertisements. Following their promotions, the group debuted with the single “Push Push”, and began promoting their music through shows. The group attracted significant attention after the release of the single “Shady Girl”, which featured Kim Heechul from Super Junior – they were awarded the Newcomer Award during the Golden Disk Awards, and also won a Mutizen Award on Inkigayo.

Their first extended play (EP) called “Alone” was released shortly afterwards, and they followed it up with the release of “Loving U’, which contained the lead single of the same name.

Continued Work with Sistar and Disbandment

In 2013, Sistar produced their second studio album called “Give it to Me”, which debuted in fourth spot of the Gaon Music Chart. Numerous singles were released in promotion of the album, and the following year, they worked on their next release “Touch N Move”, which was commercially successful, peaking in second spot on Gaon, and the title track “Touch My Body” was very successful too.

Their fourth EP “Sweet & Sour” soon followed, and during the year they won the Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Female Group.

In 2015, Sistar worked on their fifth EP “Shake It”, and then performed in Los Angeles at the KCON. They then took a break from working as a group, coming back in 2016 with their final extended play “Insane Love”. It was later confirmed by Starship that it was the last performance for the group, and they would disband after seven years together.

Dasom along with the other members wrote farewell letters for their fans, then performed their most successful hits on “Inkigayo” as a part of their final performance together.

Solo Projects

Even while working with Sistar, Dasom was already making waves in the field of acting, beginning with her debut in the sitcom “Family”, in which she portrayed a high school punk; she also collaborated with VIXX for the single “Rock Ur Body”. She has been a host too, including hosting the Golden Disc Awards, and also portrayed the female lead character in “Melody of Love”.

During the last few years of Sistar, she worked as a recurring guest on “My Little Television”, and was also cast in “Law of the Jungle”. She then gained a starring role in “The Eccentric Daughter-in-Law”.

Following the disbandment of Sistar, Dasom collaborated with the artist 40 for a remake of “You and I, Heart Fluttering”. She was then cast as one of the stars of the series “Band of Sisters”, in which she was the show’s antagonist, working alongside Oh Yoon-ah, Jang Seo-hee, and Kim Ju-hyeon.

One of her latest projects is the drama “He Is Psychometric”, starring alongside Kim Kwon, Shin Ye-eun, and Park Jin-young. The show follows the story of a man who acquires psychometry, the ability to read an object or person’s past through touch.

Personal Life

It is known that Dasom is single, and because of her busy schedule, she has very little in time for any long term romantic commitments – regardless, she keeps a lot of information to herself when it comes to this aspect of her life.

She didn’t have a lot of time to process the end of Sistar, though it was a difficult period as she spent seven years with them.

She had to quickly transition to acting after disbandment, to keep her momentum going. She admires actress Yum Jung Ah, and has expressed her desire to work with her in the future. She also wants to try playing more of an idiotic role, just to experience it.
