Who is Jewel Staite?

Born Jewel Belair Staite on second of June, 1982 in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada, of Iroquois, Irish, French and British descent while she holds a Canadian citizenship, Jewel has six siblings. Jewel was really lucky to be spotted by an agent when she was at a shopping mall, just five at the time but had already started her career as a child model. Today, Jewel is a successful actress who is best known for her role in the “Firefly” series.

Career

Her first movie to star in was “Liar, Liar” in 1993, not to be confused with “Liar Liar” filmed in 1997 with Jim Carrey. The movie she acted in is about a girl who accused her father of molestation, however, nobody in her family believed her.

After this movie, the actress appeared briefly in the eighth episode of the third season of “The X-Files”, then if you like space movies and series, you might have seen the actress in the “Space Cases” series in 1996. She then featured in the Disney series “Flash Forward”, and had a main role in the “Higher Ground” drama series in 2000, which is about a group of teenagers attending a therapeutic boarding school, and who have problems with their families at their homes.

Jewel also lent her voice to characters from the animated TV series “Sabrina: The Animated Series” and “Mummies Alive!”, which led to one the biggest roles in her career, or at least the one she is mostly known for – the TV series “Firefly” filmed in 2002 and 2003. The series was set in the year of 2517, when humans arrived in a new star system, following the adventures of the crew of a Firefly-class spaceship named “Serenity”, with Jewel playing the role of mechanic Kaywinnet Lee “Kaylee” Frye The series didn’t go on for too long, but continued in the form of tjhe movie called “Serenity” which was shot in 2005.

Again, for all the lovers of movies set in space, Jewel had a role in “Stargate Atlantis”, then played the recurring role of Jennifer Keller in the “Stargate SG-1” until the beginning of the fifth season when she was made a member of the main cast. The series was about an elite US Air Force special operations team exploring the galaxy, and defending themselves and Earth from alien threats. The series was a major success, and won several awards.

Jewel appeared in a couple more movies and series – “Mothman” in 2010 which is a science fiction movie, then in a single episode of the “Warehouse 13” series, and also in an episode of “Supernatural” in 2011. She was a part of the main cast in “The L.A. Complex” series in 2012 which was liked by the audience, before appearing in a couple of episodes of “The Killing”, an American crime drama television series.

Jewel also starred in the sex comedy movie called “How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town” in 2015, in the main role of Cassie Cranston, who returns to her hometown for her mother’s funeral. In the movie, she is a newspaper sex columnist and has a lot of problems because her publisher found out how she made up the stories she wrote. The movie follows her attempt to challenge the town to plan an orgy in order to prove that they are not as stiff as she thinks of them. The movie was a major success. as it won 3 awards – Best Feature, Best Costume Design, and Best Ensemble Cast Awards.

Because she was so fond of acting, Jewel decided to attend the Vancouver Film School while she was also a member of the youth theatre there.
