Manwell was born in Germany and spent a bit of time there with his parents as his father served in the country as a US military officer. However, he and his mother would return to the US as his parents separated, and he didn’t see much of his father from this point on. He and his older brother were raised by their mother, but he was a troublesome kid, being kicked out of three schools and his life only started turning around in high school, after his discovery of Christianity. From then he was inspired to do better at school, and after matriculating, he enrolled into a bible college, and also attended Christian summer camps where he discovered his passion for music. He performed in front of many people, and after completing his studies, decided that he wanted to start a band, inviting friends to make a group which became Group 1 Crew.
Group 1 Crew
Group 1 Crew originally started with three members including Reyes, Blanca Callahan and Pablo Villatoro, but numerous band members would be added or would leave as the band made numerous changes as years passed. Reyes stayed as the focal point of the group, and their skills would eventually earn them a contract with Fervent Records and then Warner Bros. Records. In 2007, they made their debut with the song “Can’t Go On” which would become a part of WOW Hits 2007. They also released their first EP entitled “I Have a Dream”, before working on their debut self-entitled album.
Their song entitled “Love is a Beautiful Thing” reached the 20th spot on the R&R magazine Christian chart, and in 2008, they worked on a second studio album entitled “Ordinary Dreamers”; one of their most mainstream and popular radio singles – “Forgive Me” – was featured in an episode of “One Tree Hill”. Two years later, they released another album entitled “Outta Space Love”, which became their most mainstream effort. A lot of their songs were used on “America’s Got Talent”, plus they sold more than 250,000 copies of their albums, and were also nominated for a Dove Award nine times, winning five of their nominations.
Wife – Anjelah Johnson
Anjelah began her career as a cheerleader for the National Football League (NFL) team, the Oakland Raiders, being named the rookie of the year of the Oakland Raiderettes during Super Bowl XXXVII. Knowing that cheerleading would not be a long term career, she moved to Los Angeles in 2005 to pursue her passion in comedy, and started taking writing and improv classes, which led her to start working on a stand-up routine, which got a lot of attention thanks to her impression of a Vietnamese nail salon employee.
In 2007, she was hired by the comedy sketch show “MADtv” as a feature performer. However, joining the show was not a fruitful move at the start as she joined during the time of the writer’s strike, and her lines were severely limited as a result. Despite that, her fast food employee character named Bon Qui Qui earned considerable popularity, especially on YouTube. After serving with “MADtv” for a few years, she was given her own Comedy Central special entitled “Anjelah Johnson: That’s How We Do It”, and started acting, appearing in several films while also continuing her comedy work. A few of her recent projects include comedy specials that were filmed in line with a contract from Netflix.

A lot of his fans and followers from Group 1 followed him into this new endeavor, and the music videos and audio for his singles are available in various websites such as YouTube and as the group name devotes, he uses a panda costume as a mascot.
