The Wealth of Michael Michele
How rich is Michael Michele? As of early-2019, sources inform us of a net worth that is over $4 million, earned through success in her various endeavors. She’s also worked on several stage productions and several music videos too. As she continues her career, it is expected that her wealth will also continue to increase.
Early Life, Education, and Career Beginnings
Michael Michele was named after her mother’s best friend, and grew up the elder of two daughters of African-American descent on her mother’s side; her mother worked at a pharmaceutical company, while her father ran a furniture rental business. She later attended Benjamin Bosse High School, and during her time there played for the school’s basketball team.
She began her career doing various stage productions, and was relatively unknown until the late 1980s, when she started appearing in music videos by R&B singers. In 1989, she gained a bit of attention when she was cast in the film “Harlem Nights”, but was subsequently removed from the production, after which she filed a lawsuit against Eddie Murphy, as she told the press she was fired for rejecting his romantic advances. Murphy made a statement through various publications saying that the two never had one-on-one conversations, and that if he was trying to be a sleaze, he would’ve done it before she was cast in the role. The lawsuit was later settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
Film Debut and Rise to Prominence
In 1991, Michele got her first starring role, in the film “New Jack City” alongside Wesley Snipes. The gangster film was the directorial debut of Mario Van Peebles, and follows the life of a rising drug lord in New York City during the crack epidemic. The film was highly successful, but it didn’t give her a jumpstart in her career, as her next film would come six years later in “The 6th Man”. What happened instead is that she took a starring role in the TV series “Dangerous Curves”, which lasted for two seasons.
She then played another leading role in the show “Trade Winds”, before gaining a recurring role in the police drama “New York Undercover”, but left the show sometime in 1995 to gain a lead role in the soap opera “Central Park West”, which was only partly successful as it was cancelled after two seasons. During the final season of “Homicide: Life on the Street”, she played the role of Detective Rene Sheppard which helped her gain her first NAACP Image Award nomination.
Recent Projects
Michael reprised her role as Detective Sheppard in an episode of “Law & Order” as well as in the television movie “Homicide: The Movie”. In 1999, she joined the medical drama “ER” in which she played Dr. Cleo Finch for three seasons, gaining another NAACP Image Award nomination, and two years later appeared opposite Will Smith in the biographical film “Ali” in which she played Veronica Porche Ali.
