Who was Andy Whitfield?

He was born in Anglesey, Wales, UK on 17 October 1971 under the zodiac sign of Libra. Life before acting

Andy attended and graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in England, then went to work and live in Australia when he was 28, and eventually settled in Sydney, accompanied by his parents and sister. Acting career

He got his first big role in the Australian action horror movie “Gabriel”, playing the titular role as the archangel, and which follows his fight to rid purgatory of the evil fallen angels. It was a big success even though it had no government funding and was produced on a low budget. He also appeared in one more movie called “The Clinic” in 2010, which is a crime horror movie with a 5.4/10 rating on IMDb.

His biggest success was in the title role in “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” in the 2010 TV series. It is a story of the Thracian gladiator who led a slave uprising against the Roman Republic. The series had a great 8.5/10 rating on IMDb, and is loved by the audience even today, six years after the last season was released. His other roles were in episodes of TV series including “All Saints” in 2004, “The Strip”, “Packed to the Rafters” and “McLeod’s Daughters”, all in 2008.

Personal life and death

He met the love of his life in London, an Iranian-Australian named Vashti, who was a design consultant and later became a life coach in Australia. They fell in love almost instantly, went to live in Sydney together and married there in 2001. They have two kids together, a son – Jesse Red Whitfield – and a daughter named Indigo Sky Whitfield.

His world collapsed when he went to the doctor in March 2010 and found out that he was suffering from a non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It is an entire group of blood cancers, quite dangerous ones, and can be slow or fast growing – his was fast. He immediately started treating it, and seemed to have succeeded by June 2010, but the cancer returned in September 2010, and killed Andy on 11 September, 2011, just a year and a half after he was first diagnosed with. He was 39 when he passed away. His last ever episode was filmed for “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” in which he only voiced and was uncredited.

Andy had short brown hair and light blue eyes. He was 5ft 11ins (1.8m) tall and weighed about 156lbs (71kg). He had a soft spoken voice. According to authoritative sources, his net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be over $5 million.

Andy initially worked as a building inspector for a consulting company. There is a two-and-a-half minute long video on YouTube called “Time Crisis” which was uploaded in August, 2010, and stars Andy and Freddie Wong and is an action video based on the “Time Crisis” game. Because of his performance in “Spartacus” and the love everybody felt towards him, the first episode of the second season called “Spartacus: Fugitivus” in 2012 was dedicated to his memory. The credits of the episode show his picture with the inscription ‘Our greatest champion’. He never won any awards but was nominated for the Outstanding Actor Golden Nymph Award in 2010. ‘Wherever you are now, we’ll love you forever.
