Mandy Hansen is perhaps best known as the daughter of Captain Sig Hansen, one of the captains of the hit reality TV show “Deadliest Catch”, first known to the public when she appeared on the hit Discovery Channel show alongside her dad. Mandy ended up meeting a deckhand from one of the Alaskan crab fishing boats on the show, and eventually tied the knot with him.

Early Life

Mandy was born in 1996 in Seattle, Washington State USA. She graduated high school in 2014, and joined her father aboard the Alaskan fishing vessel, the “Northwestern”, a shipping boat featured on the show “The Deadliest Catch”. She had worked on the ship previously during her summer vacations, and would tend to the salmon during her early years aboard the Northwestern. Like her father, she had a passion for fishing and seafaring, and Mandy would often go with her father on his ship when she was still very young.

Family

Mandy is the daughter of Sig Hansen, the captain of the Northwestern, and June Hansen. She has a sister named Nina and an uncle named Edgar. Sig is not the biological father of Mandy and Nina – June had her daughters with someone – unnamed – from a previous relationship, but when Sig and June married, he decided to adopt both of the girls, so they eventually took his last name as their own. Nina recently gave birth to a son named Jackson, the first nephew of Mandy, and the first grandchild of Sig.

Wedding and Pregnancy

In 2017, Mandy married Clark Pederson, a fellow deckhand on the Northwestern. Pederson asked for Mandy’s hand in marriage from Sig Hansen at their house, actually during one of the episodes of “The Deadliest Catch”.  The wedding of Hansen and Pederson took place aboard the Northwestern ship at the Pacific Fisherman port in Seattle. She walked down the gangway accompanied by her captain and her father, Sig. Most of the women from her side wore traditional Norwegian clothes, as Sig is originally from Norway. Most of Mandy’s family also wore traditional Norwegian clothing and jewelry.

Aside from working as a deckhand, Pederson also works at the Shaver Transportation Company on the Columbia River, but is currently training to be a captain, and hopes to join the Columbia River Pilots.

During one of the episodes, Clark was tasked by his uncle and deck boss, Edgar, to pull a prank on Sig by telling him Mandy was pregnant. Clark was hesitant but he was ordered by the deck boss, so he apparently had no choice, and approached Sig and told him the news. Sig was then quiet until word got to him that it was a joke, at which point Sig got on loudspeaker and said:

“Clark, I would really, really keep an eye open when I go to sleep. I’d keep one eye open when you sleep from now on for the rest of your life.”

Career on “The Deadliest Catch” and Net Worth

Mandy first made an appearance in the show “The Deadliest Catch” in 2009, when she was only 13 years old, featuring in an episode alongside her father, but only being credited as a guest star. Mandy became a permanent cast member in 2014 when she matriculated and turned 18-years old, and has appeared in every season since then.

Mandy’s mother was initially hesitant about having her youngest daughter go out to sea, and her father was reportedly against the idea of his daughter working on his ship too, but decided it was better that she worked for him so he could keep an eye on her – Mandy actually had several offers to tend to salmon aboard other vessels. As part of the ritual to be accepted as one of the ship’s crew, Mandy had to eat raw fish during one of the episodes.

The Discovery Channel show “The Deadliest Catch” is a documentary reality TV show that portrays the life of fishing vessels and their captains and crews; the vessels fish across the Bering Sea for crabs, including the Alaskan king crab. The show premiered in 2005, and has been one of the biggest hit shows for the channel. The show is still ongoing – the 14th season premiered in April 2018. Sig Hansen and his ship, the Northwestern, are among the most popular characters and vessels on the show.

Mandy has been trying to get into the Maritime Academy, so that she could get licensed to run ocean liners and freighters. Mandy is also very active in social media. She currently has almost 20,000 followers on Instagram, and over 12,000 on Twitter. Because of her social media accounts and her time as a cast member for several seasons of the hit show “The Deadliest Catch”, her net worth is authoritatively estimated to be close to $1 million.
